Score another one for the good guys

Two nights ago, we were called out for a chimney fire at 3am. As I pulled out of the driveway, I could already see the smoke and glow from the fire, less than a mile down the road. I had to pass the house on my way to the station to get a truck and saw that the chimney was already a completely engulfed pillar of fire, speading to the second floor, roof, and eaves. Three of us pulled pulled the engine and when we got onscene, I packed up while Scott got on the roof of the truck and directed the deluge gun onto the chimney. In forty seconds, the deck gun emptied the engine’s 500-gallon tank, tearing the chimney off the house in the process, and by the time we finished packing up, the next truck was there. As they hooked into the hydrant, three of us headed up to the second floor to find the fire breaking through into the upstairs bedroom, and the entire floor filled with thermally-layed smoke and around 140-degree heat. With the chimney extinguished (and removed) and after venting the upstairs (effectively turning it into swiss cheese), the heat was no longer being fed into the house and we we put out any spot-fires that had ignited. Later, we found that the entire attic line on the chimney side had been completely burned, but for the second time in three days, the fire stopped just minutes from flashing over into the rest of the house.

Good fire, good save.

Special of the Day – Two for One!

And no, I didn’t just rotate the print 180 degrees. There are actually two beating hearts in these photos.
Yup, twins.

For now, I think I’ll refer to them as Top and Bottom… or maybe Up and Down. But then for consistency’s sake future kids would have to be named Charm and Strange.

Update: People have been suggesting other temporary, notable names: Zan/Jayna, Luke/Leia…
