Spent the weekend working on the house, mostly continuing the process of tearing stuff out… paneling, walls, wire, weeds. Mom spent the day working on the lawn, beating back the weeds that were growing out of control everywhere. And Dad installed an exterior outlet (woo!), and a motion-sensing porch light to replace the crappy plastic one (double-woo!). John designed the new bathroom, and figured out which pipes went where… and which ones needed to go where. And Marie and I basically concentrated on ripping stuff out. (Sawz-All = BigFun).
So now, the room which is to be the kitchen is bare down to the studs, and after a few more runs of wire, will be set for drywall. We also went cabinet-shopping and figured out exactly what cabinets we’ll need, and where they’ll go. Fun stuff!

second rant-o-the-day

I was driving behind a Sherwin-Williams Paint Company delivery truck today on the way into Tios, so I had a bit of time to stare at the company logo on the rear door of the truck. It’s disgusting! Who the heck thought that an image of a paint can pouring think red paint over the entire planet would generate nice, happy, I-want-to-go-out-and-paint-my-house feelings in anyone who saw it? And the slogan is just as bad, “Sherwin-Williams. Cover the earth.”
I dunno. Maybe I’m the only one who thinks that something like, “Dow Chemical [correction] DuPont. Make your lawn a Teflon lawn.” just doesn’t sound incredibly seductive.

rant-o-the-day

Shouldn’t it a primary function of the photolabs to NOT put dirt, dust, and hair onto your prints!? I haven’t been able to find a single 1-Hour Lab with prints that come out clean. Hmm… I suppose the “1-Hour” might have something to do with it, but still… it seems to me that I should expect a bit lower quality than overnight, not to have them ruined by the process. Sigh… looks like I’m going to have to drop the clams for a nice digital SLR. Film is dead. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing… unless I’m looking at my Eastman-Kodak stock price.

fork in the road

I’m now in Vancouver, BC on my (mostly) yearly trip to see Ken and Janet. This year is a bit different since Marie came with me. But not as different as things will be when I get back. I’m now engaged. Weird… and exciting… and frightening… and exciting… and much, much more.
